Oh hai guise!
Let’s see, this would be my first post since May of last year. Wow. Anyway, bet you weren’t expecting to see any life on Starcrossed again, eh?
This is just a status update of what I’ve got going on at the moment. I don’t know how many of you follow my Deviantart page, but I’ve been posting bits of info on my comics here and there. I had talked about how I had written myself into a corner on Starcrossed. The comic was originally meant to be a learning exercise being that I knew nothing about writing comics. I have learned that comic writing is a balancing act between working from an outline and improvisation. The problem I had with Starcrossed is that I was good at the improv part, but had no direction for the story. Basically chapter 1 is the farthest I ever got. That approach makes it extremely difficult to put in little plot devices for later in the comic to create a compelling story. Creating a full story has been my biggest challenge for getting Starcrossed back up and running again. Getting through some personal things in my life these last few months has been a struggle as well.
I’ve been working on notes for Starcrossed recently and have actually decided on a direction for it. You know, a story!
My first step probably won’t seem like progress to you, but it’s something that’s just been driving me nuts. I’m in the progress of redoing the first chapter. It’s weird I had never fancied myself a writer before so I was surprised the amount of praise I got for writing the first chapter. Unfortunately that didn’t transfer as well int he art. The weird part being considered myself an artist for, well, most of my life. This is all a roundabout way of saying my art in the comic kinda sucks, especially compared to my more recent art. I’ve always had a hard time putting my name on something I consider sub par. So much so that I have to redraw the first chapter before moving forward. It will be drawn better and in color this go around. No more badly done screen tones!
The story itself will be fairly similar to the original chapter one. Because I have a game plan, I can do more with it to give it a bit richer story. Looking back, Quinn’s character seems a bit wooden. I’ve taken the time to develop her character more including some others to make it more interesting.
I’ll be posting some visual stuff as soon as I can. One of the struggles I’ve had irl has been technology fail. I plan to buy a new scanner with this year’s tax refund which will be soon.
