The best way to learn illustration is just to do it, but have others who can give you honest feedback on your work.
This sounds simple, but its not easy to find people who know enough to be objective about your work, and not just say they like it because they don't want to hurt your feelings.
Its also not easy to be objective about your own work. Granted, you have to know you have talent and ability, but being able to see it for what it is calls for a little bit of humility.
Your choice to concentrate on illustration over animation was a good one. If you are a great illustrator then you can always be a great animator, but not the other way around. Illustration concentrates on the basics of the image, wether its moving or not. 3d illustration will put you right in a sweet spot, where you can do anything.

well, i hope that you get over whatever sickness you are getting ( and fast, cause being sick is no fun ), and i hope that your college classes don't take up too much of your time. I love Starcrossed, and I think that once the story progresses a little bit further ( past the beginning introductions and into the main story plot ) more people will come around to see it.
get better soon!

Anyway, hope you start feeling better. My life has been super hectic so I know how you feel.
